5 things to do on a couple’s break to Keswick
Come rain or shine, the Lake District is one of the most romantic places in the UK and the perfect place to spend some quality time together. Take a look at our list of top things to do to make sure you make the most of your couple’s break.
1. Walk around Derwentwater
One of the most famous lakes in England, Derwentwater offers a beautiful walk with breathtaking scenery, plus a few nice resting points on the way. The whole walk takes a day to complete, or you can jump on and off the ferry as you please and enjoy a relaxing day together in the Cumbrian countryside. You can find walking information, ferry points, restaurants, and car parks on this map of Derwentwater.
2. Relax on Friars Crag
While you’re out walking around Derwentwater, take a wander up to Friars Crag (it’s only a few minutes from Theatre by the Lake) and enjoy a picnic at one of the most romantic spots in the whole of the Lake District. This perfectly situated bench overlooks Derwentwater and offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains.
3. Hire a boat on Lake Windermere
Located only 20 miles from Whitbarrow, Windermere is definitely worth a visit. You can hire rowing and motor boats all year round and explore the Lake District on water. Lake Windermere is so vast (it’s the largest natural lake in England) that you may want to book for a couple of hours to really make the most of your trip, but even one hour will give you a chance to relax together with no interruptions. And once you’re done, there’s plenty to explore in Windermere itself.
4. Indulge in a cream tea at Bryson’s
A trip to the Lake District wouldn’t feel complete without a visit to this beautifully traditional Lake District café. Forget afternoon tea, a romantic cream tea is what it’s all about. There’s nothing better than cosying up in the warm with a piece of cake or basking in the sun with a scone in hand. You can read up on Bryson’s and the products they sell on their website.
5. Climb up Catbells
If you’re feeling energetic, a walk up Catbells is an inspiring way to spend your day. With views over Keswick, Skiddaw, and Bassenthwaite Lake, you can spend time together in the midst of the beautiful mountains. There’s nothing like quality time in the countryside and the unparalleled views from Catbells make for the perfect backdrop.
