Let’s face it, we all know that the Lake District is beautiful, but we can’t always capture just how magnificent it really is. Luckily for us, these fantastic photographers have shared their best snaps on Instagram so we can admire their views. All of these places are within an hour’s drive from Whitbarrow and are the perfect spots to explore during your stay.
Haweswater Reservoir, Mardale
The controversial construction of the Haweswater dam was started in 1929 and caused the flooding of farming villages whose residents were forced to relocate. The valley remains one of the most picturesque in Westmorland and is now one of the largest lakes at 4 miles long and 1/2 mile wide.

Cat Bells, Keswick
Cat Bells and Derwentwater Lakeshore is one of the most popular walking routes in the Lake District as the walk along the fells is of moderate difficulty and only 3.5 miles. It offers breathtaking views over Derwentwater, Keswick, and Borrowdale as well as views of Newlands Valley and Western Fells.

The summit of Helvellyn showcases beautiful views across to the northwestern fells such as Skiddaw and Grisedale Pike, southwesterly to the Scafells and Great Gable, south to Windermere, and east to High Street and Ullswater.

Ennerdale Water, Cleator
Ennerdale Water is the most westerly of the lakes, and the most remote. So even in high season, it offers a beautiful place to escape. The Ennerdale Valley contains one of the largest forests in Cumbria and has more than 20 miles of forest road, and many other paths open to the public.
