Bude named ‘Best UK Coastal Town’ at the 2017 British Travel Awards
The seaside town of Bude, home to the beautiful Burn resort, recently scooped the silver award for ‘Best UK Coastal Town’ at the 2017 British Travel Awards.
This is the third time the town has been awarded this coveted prize, having won the gold award in 2014 and 2015. This latest win proves that Bude remains a firm favourite with holidaymakers in terms of its beautiful beaches, amazing attractions and superb hospitality.
Here’s just a few reasons why Bude could be the perfect destination for your 2018 summer break.
Bude’s beaches
Bude is home to some of the best coastlines in Cornwall. Not only are the surrounding sandy beaches ideal for sunbathing, surfing and rock pooling, but the town’s position on the west coast means they are the perfect place to watch the summer sunsets. Need somewhere to store belongings and enjoy a picnic? Why not hire one of Summerleaze’s colourful beach huts?
Bude Farmers’ and Crafts Market
The town’s famous Farmers’ and Crafts Market runs every Friday from 10am – 3pm throughout the summer and features everything from beautiful handmade crafts to delicious local produce. Pick up some unique souvenirs for loved ones back home or sample one of the fabulous Cornish crêpes as you stroll along the canal.
Bude Castle
Dating back to 1830, The Castle Bude is home to Cafê Limelight, the Heritage Centre and the Willoughby Gallery, which hosts several exciting exhibitions throughout the year. Learn about the world famous geology of the north coast, see figureheads from locally-wrecked ships and find out the history of Bude’s lifeboat station.
Bude Sea Pool
The partially man-made sea pool on Summerleaze Beach dates back to the 1930s and provides a safe place to swim away from the Atlantic currents. Perfect for children with inflatables and those who fancy taking a relaxing dip, the pool features a shallow end and is manned by the RNLI lifeguards during the summer months.
Bude Canal
Originally used for transporting lime-rich sand to local farms, the historic Bude Canal is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll and spot local wildlife. Take to the water and explore the canal by canoe, kayak or pedal, or hire bikes and cycle along the coast through the nearby towns of Whalesborough, Widemouth and Upton.
