Why Bude is the perfect destination for a family holiday
Bude recently won Gold for the ‘Best UK Seaside Town’ at the British Travel Awards 2018 and it’s easy to see why! This fabulous coastal retreat has been a firm favourite with holidaymakers for years and it’s becoming increasingly popular with families.
So whether you have a couple of teenagers to entertain or a toddler in tow, here’s why Bude is one of the best destinations for a family holiday.
It’s home to some amazing beaches
One of Bude’s highlights has to be its beaches. With miles and miles of golden sands, you can easily pitch up for several hours or spend an entire day at the beach. At Summerleaze Beach, you’ll find some great facilities including colourful beach huts, a shop and café, and the famous Bude Sea Pool – the perfect place for youngsters with inflatables to take a dip. There are also plenty of rock pools to explore, or, if you’re travelling with older children, why not enrol them in the surf school for an afternoon?
There are some great places to eat
From cosy cafés to family-run pubs, Bude has something for everyone. There are plenty of relaxed eateries to enjoy a bite to eat after a day of activities, or, if you’d prefer to grab something on the go, you’re never far away from a fish and chip shop or proper Cornish bakery. For top notch burgers and pizzas, try The Shack, where kids also eat free every Friday evening. Or, if you’re in the mood for freshly prepared food that everyone will love, then try the popular tapas restaurant, The Bank.
There’s plenty to see and do
When visiting Bude, one thing that you and your family can count on is that you’ll never be short of things to do. For the adventurous types, there’s plenty of activities to get stuck into, from canoeing along the canal to exploring the surrounding countryside and woodland by Segway. If you fancy indulging in some retail therapy, take a stroll through the sloping streets and browse the town’s many independent shops before enjoying a coffee and a cake in a café. Or, if you need to entertain the little ones on a rainy day, there’s ten pin bowling and soft play at The Venue or the traditional style Rebel Cinema.
It’s in an unbeatable location
Bude’s location on the North Cornish coast means that you can experience all the joys of holidaying in Cornwall without the long travel times. In fact, the town also gets more sunshine than most British towns and was officially the sunniest place in the country in 2013! What’s more, if you fancy venturing further afield, many of Cornwall’s top family friendly attractions, including Tintagel Castle, The Eden Project, and The Milky Way Park, are just a short drive away.
