Bude Lifeboat Weekend
This long standing annual event is dear to the hearts of many locals and holiday makers alike, and there is no wonder as to why. Without a doubt it is the single best weekend of the year in Bude with huge crowds gathering alongside the picturesque Wharf area and Summerleaze beach for a whole host of events and activities – too many to list, but there is:
- A duck race
- Treasure hunts on the beach
- Rowing races and vintage cars
- Food stalls
- Hog roasts
- Pasty competitions and so much more!
The general buzz and feel good factor is thriving all in the name of raising some much needed funds for the RNLI.
The ever popular marquee situated on the castle grounds plays host to a large entertainment program including a children’s disco, quiz night, live music and charity top sales. In the marquee you will also find a well stocked bar where local RNLI members with their family and friends work tirelessly to serve you a huge selection of locally brewed beers and Cornish gins to name but a few.
The highlight of the weekend is always the Bank Holiday Monday where many of the highly anticipated traditional events occur. On Summerleaze beach at 10am on Monday 28th August 2017 the RNLI will demonstrate their specialised skills with a sea rescue to include the beach lifeguards, Bude’s inshore lifeboat and the rescue helicopter. Then in the evening the grand fireworks finale to round off the day is always a huge crowd puller, afterall it is Bude’s best fireworks display of the year.
Without a doubt, there is something for everyone of every age and this weekend does not disappoint.
A huge well done to our RNLI who keep us all safe year after year.
