Christmas in the Lake District
With the evenings growing darker and the days getting colder, we are quickly approaching Christmas and the excitement of the festivities ahead. With Whitbarrow being just around the corner from Keswick, it is the perfect place to enjoy a magical Christmas break. Here are our top 6 Christmas events happening in the Lake District this year.
Lowther Christmas Market at Lowther Castle and Gardens: 24th – 25th November
Enjoy a wonderful Christmas market surrounded by the grandeur of the Lowther courtyard. Open for just two days, there will be a wide selection of stalls selling food, gifts and goodies – the perfect opportunity for you to buy a special gift for your loved ones.
The Santa Express at Hayes Garden World: 3rd November – 23rd December
Follow the tracks and keep an eye out for the golden tickets as you step into Santa’s winter wonderland at Hayes Garden World, and make sure you don’t forget to help make reindeer food in Santa’s workshop. Your magical adventure will conclude with children meeting Santa himself and receiving a special gift and book, as well as the opportunity for a photo to capture the festive fun. The Nutcracker – Live From The Bolshoi at Fellinis: 23rd December
For one night only, enjoy the magic of The Nutcracker as the timeless tale is broadcast at The Bolshoi. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s adored musical score, watch as Marie Nutcracker’s doll magically transforms into a prince and their magical adventure begins. Tickets can be purchased online here.
Keswick Victorian Fayre: 2nd December
With over 30 festively decorated market stalls accompanied by live music and entertainment, and selling crafts, food, and drink, this traditional Victorian Christmas Fayre is full of merry fun for all the family. The fayre is also a fantastic opportunity for local charities to raise money and awareness of their causes.
Scalesceugh Hall Christmas Concert – Mere Harps: 24th November
Led by renowned Celtic harpist Susan Lambert, enjoy the wonderful music of Mere Harp, a quartet who will be performing classical music exploring a range of genres and styles. The event will be two 45 minutes pieces, separated by an interval featuring seasonal mulled wine and delicious warm mince pies. Tickets for the concert can be purchased via their website.
Christmas Tea Parties at The World of Beatrix Potter: 20th – 21st & 22nd – 23rd December
With fun for all of the family, enjoy the Christmassy magic at the World Of Beatrix Potter’s winter wonderland at a special Father Christmas Tea Party. There will be an opportunity to meet Father Christmas on his sleigh and receive a present. Be sure to settle down and enjoy a special screening of the animation of ‘The Tailor Of Gloucester’ as well as a fun-filled party lunch. Find out more.
