Easter in the Lake District
Easter is the perfect time to visit the Lake District. Not only does the beautiful Lakeland scenery come to life in the springtime, but there are plenty of family-friendly activities taking place in the area’s top attractions.
Here are some of the top things to see and do in the Lake District this Easter.
Daffodils on the Ullswater Way | Throughout March and April
If you’re visiting the Lake District over the Easter period, it’s well worth heading over to Ullswater to see the famous daffodils which inspired Wordsworth’s 1802 poem, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’. One of the best ways to explore the area is by walking The Ullswater Way – a 20-mile route which takes you the whole way round ‘England’s most beautiful lake’. You can begin the route at any starting point and hop on a boat or open-top bus if you would prefer to just walk the shorter sections.
Wordsworth House and Garden | From 4th April
There are lots of things to see and do at Wordsworth’s childhood home over Easter. In addition to exploring the beautiful house and gardens, you can spend a raucous evening with the folk band, Tryckster, discover how National Trust General Manager, Tom Burditt, manages the Lakeland landscape, and learn Dorothy Wordsworth’s secrets and how she helped inspire the modern conservation movement in the live exhibit, A Passionate Nature.
The Cumbria Easter Rally | 20th -21st April
The Cumbria Easter Rally> is now one of the largest commercial vehicle rallies in the country and receives thousands of visitors each year. Free to attend, the rally features over 250 commercial working vehicles from the last century across seven locations – all of which are connected by a regular classic bus service. There are usually plenty of stalls to browse and, in the past, the event has even featured an Edwardian fairground!
The World of Beatrix Potter | 6th April
The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windemere always has a jam-packed events schedule throughout the Easter period. From Saturday 6th April right through to the end of the month, the attraction will play host to regular Peter Rabbit tea parties, arts and crafts sessions, and mini egg hunts in the Peter Rabbit garden. Plus, from 8th – 12th April, little ones can also embark on a Squirrel Nutkin Garden Trail where they’ll discover more about the adventures of one of Beatrix Potter’s best-loved characters.
Derwent Island House open day | 10th April
If you’re looking for a cultural outing with a difference, why not sign up for the upcoming Derwent Island House open day? You can take to the water and paddle across a short stretch of Derwent Water in a canoe before enjoying a 45-minute guided tour of Pocklington’s Georgian house and exploring the gardens and grounds. There are only five open days throughout the year and this mini adventure is the perfect way to learn about the history of the lake and experience some amazing views.
