Five top tips for planning the perfect staycation
With top attractions, beautiful scenery, and minimal travel times, it’s easy to see why so many of us have fallen in love with staycations. If you’re considering holidaying a little closer to home this year, take a look at our five top tips for planning the perfect staycation.
Embrace the ‘spur of the moment’ getaway
One of the best things about a staycation is the fact you don’t need to plan too far ahead. With no flights, transfers, or airport parking to plan, you can simply count down to your getaway, jump in the car, and go.
You’re also more likely to be able to take advantage of last minute offers. In our opinion, the more spontaneous, the better, and it may even open your eyes to a destination you’d never considered before.
Think about your itinerary
As with any holiday, you’ll want to make the most of your time away. Think about how you’ll spend your days and whether there are things you’ve always wanted to experience but haven’t yet had the chance. The UK is home to an amazing range of attractions, beaches, National Parks, and other natural wonders, so be sure to factor some of your top picks into your trip.
But on the flip side, if your idea of the perfect staycation includes a lazy lie-in followed by an afternoon in the hot tub – who cares, you’re on holiday.
Consider how you’ll get around
Think about how easily accessible your accommodation is from nearby towns, villages and attractions. And if you’re planning to explore the local area, be sure to pack your walking boots – or maybe even your bicycle.
In some places, parking can be costly and stressful, and so exploring on foot will not only keep things laid back, but means you can enjoy a glass of wine with lunch.
Make the most of no luggage limits
One downside of flying abroad is that you’re limited on what you can take with you. However, if you’re travelling within the UK, you can make the most of no luggage limits.
Be it a stack of DVDs for the ultimate movie night, body boards and games for a day at the beach, or candles, your favourite toiletries, and plenty of books for bathtime reading, you can bring along all the little extras you’d like to make your staycation unforgettable.
Put thought into your accommodation, as well as your destination
The destination is a big part of your staycation, but so is your chosen property. If you’re looking to spoil yourself with a luxury getaway, then why not opt for somewhere with a hot tub, outdoor bath, or even a spa? If you have little ones in tow, look into on-site activities and consider whether there’s enough space for you to all relax and enjoy a little downtime.
Your holiday is all about you and because the UK weather can be a little unpredictable, make sure your accommodation has everything you need to make the most of your time off, from a cosy fire to a terrace with an outdoor hot tub.
