Kendal Calling Music Festival – 27th to 30th July
At Whitbarrow we’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful and tranquil scenery in Britain. But every summer a festival atmosphere descends upon the Lakes as music lovers arrive to see some of their favourite artists perform at Kendal Calling!
From Seasick Steve to the sound of the Beach boys
Now in its 11th year, Kendal Calling was the brainchild of a group of local music lovers who wanted to put on a festival so big and exciting that the whole country would hear about it. So, back in 2006, this group of music fanatics kicked off a two-day party at the glorious Abbot Hall Park in Kendal. With a little gentle persuasion they landed festival giants Pendulum and the superb, Kendal-born British Sea Power. Together they made the glorious rolling countryside rock with music and images of fighting robots, flying plastic owls and more. And we’re delighted to say that Kendal Calling has never looked back!
Over the years Kendall Calling has become a ‘not to miss’ on the festival circuit. It’s doubled in size to match its popularity and a long and diverse list of internationally famous artists have appeared including: Grooverider, Dirty Pretty Things, Wild Beasts, Craig David, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Madness to name a few.
This year the scene is set for sunshine (hopefully) and an unbeatable atmosphere. And if the star-studded line-up is anything to go by, it could be Kendal Calling’s best year yet. Artists set to appear include:
- Manic Street Preachers
- Franz Ferdinand
- Tinie Tempah
- Loyle Carner
- Jake Bugg
- Seasick Steve
- Kate Nash
- The Coral
Although possibly the highlight of the festival weekend is Beach Boys’ legend Brian Wilson. Due to phenomenal public demand, Brian returns to the UK one last time to present the album ‘Pet Sounds’ in its entirety plus some of the Beach Boys greatest hits.
If you already have your tickets for Kendal Calling we hope you enjoy soaking up the atmosphere and enjoy this brilliant festival – all just 15 minutes from Whitbarrow.
