For the love of… Burn
We couldn’t make our resorts what they are, or your stay with us so memorable, without our incredible team. So in the first of a regular series of articles we meet one of our valued team members – Lisa Johns, Resort Manager, Burn.
I started my career with Luxury Lodge as a Kitchen Porter at Clowance. I was so nervous on my first shift (it’s a fast-paced, physical job) but I soon learnt the ropes. Then one of the chefs offered to train me on making starters and desserts. I loved making sure the presentation of the food was perfect and when guests started requesting my cheesecake it was a huge compliment. Shortly afterwards I transferred to front of house for waitressing and bar work. I also started an Hospitality Supervision apprenticeship and once I qualified I joined the reception team. I especially enjoyed greeting returning guests.
A couple of years in, I was given the opportunity to join our Management Training scheme. I shadowed the resort manager and worked across every department including grounds, maintenance and accounts. Then in November 2016 all my hard work paid off as the opportunity to move to Burn as manager came up… At 25 I was one of the company’s youngest managers!
My first few days were a whirlwind – meeting new people, getting to understand the refurb program and my new routine. The team were so welcoming and really helped me to settle in. Within a week of arriving the refurb was underway and a bright and airy new restaurant began to take shape with curved seating areas in beautiful sea-inspired shades and a cool, relaxed ambience that compliments Burn perfectly.
The refurb program has been so exciting and it’s only going to get better. We’ve put fabulous hot tubs in some of the units and with beautiful decked areas (and the gorgeous weather we’ve had recently) our guests have really been enjoying themselves. The refurb is sure to be a big hit so watch this space for updates, photos and information on Facebook and Twitter!
