Family of seven begin their round the world trip at Burn
Faye and Matthew Gooding and their five sons have recently sold their home and possessions to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
And where better to start their round the world trip than Burn, where the family enjoyed not one, but two weekends of indulgence after they became stranded in Cornwall due to the heaviest snowfall in 30 years!
We caught up with the family to find out a bit more about their trip to Burn and their plans for the year ahead.
What was the best part about your trip to Burn?
The Glass House was absolutely amazing – we want to build one of our own one day! Bright interiors, lovely surroundings, amazing design, plus everything you need for a wonderful holiday. And the kids absolutely loved the hot tub!
What did you and the kids get up to during your stay?
We visited the National Trust and Widemouth Beach – which had a great cafe. Tintagel Castle was a massive highlight, and is definitely our favourite walk in the UK. We explored the town of Bude which was really nice, and it also has several great supermarkets which was a bonus for us!
You ended up staying at Burn again – how did this come about?
After leaving Burn, we spent a few days further down the coast, but when we started to make our way home, we found that several roads were closed due to the snow. As we were passing Burn, we took refuge in the cafe and tried to find somewhere to stay. It turned out that Burn had another lodge available at short notice, and so we were kindly allowed to stay another night!
Tell us a little bit more about your upcoming trip.
As we lead such busy lives, holidays have never been our priority, and as a result, our eldest son Ralph has never been abroad. A few months ago, we decided to sell our home and possessions and take the children on the trip of a lifetime. We’re starting our adventure in Portugal and will be planning our next destinations as we go.
