Places to explore when staying at Dylan Coastal Resort this winter
It can be tempting to cosy up indoors all day when the weather’s like this, but with plenty of beautiful Welsh spots to explore, you’ll want to pop on a warm coat, grab a woolly scarf, and head straight outdoors.
If you fancy spending some time away in South Wales this new year, our lodges in Laugharne are the perfect base to venture out and explore from. But in case you’re not sure where to head to first, we’ve compiled a few of our favourite things to do with friends, family, or a pooch by your side.
Coastal walks
For nature lovers, there’s an abundance of long coastal walks in South Wales. Take a trip to the Brecon Beacons and discover miles upon miles of walking trails, beautiful open spaces, and rugged hilltops. Or, if you’d prefer a stroll along the seaside, then Pendine Sands is a must. This beautiful sandy beach is backed by a belt of sand dunes and offers unbeatable views across Carmarthen Bay to the Gower Peninsula and Tenby.
Local history
Discover all there is to know about Laughharne’s rich history, explore the Victoria gardens, and take in the gorgeous views of the estuary – Laugharne Castle is a must-see for your trip to Wales. Afterwards, be sure to visit Dylan Thomas’ BoatHouse and learn about the life of the famous poet, writer and broadcaster, and look out over the incredible four estuaries from his Writing Shed.
Family activities
A fun-filled activity for the whole family, Xcel Bowl is much more than a bowling alley. Unleash your competitive side with a game of ten pin bowling or let the little ones roam free in the soft play area.
For those days with a little sunshine, the Manor Wildlife Park is a brilliant day out. Get up close to a range of animals including rhinos, tigers, apes and so much more. Or, journey underground and take a tour around The National Showcaves Centre. Discover mesmerising caves, delve into the local history, and get up close to life-size dinosaur models at the world’s largest dinosaur park.
