The best places to see snowdrops near Clowance
After a long cold winter, nothing beats seeing the first signs of spring emerge across the Cornish countryside. If you’re planning a spring break to Clowance, be sure to visit one of these nearby gardens where you’ll see blankets of snowdrops and other wildflowers coming into bloom.
Trelissick
Nestled between Truro and Falmouth lies Trelissick – a beautiful National Trust estate with landscaped gardens, riverside woodland walks, and acres of nearby countryside to explore. In the early months of the year, you can walk amongst the carpets of crocuses, daffodils and snowdrops while enjoying panoramic views across the Fal Estuary.
Glendurgan
Glendurgan is just over half an hour away from Clowance and reopens for spring on Saturday 16th February. This gorgeous valley garden comes alive with wonderful wildflowers throughout February and March, and you’ll be able to see meadows filled with snowdrops, delicate primroses and daffodils.
Trengwainton Garden
Just outside Penzance, you’ll find Trengwainton Garden. West Cornwall is one of the first places in the UK to show signs of spring, so you’ll often see snowdrops from as early as January. As you walk amongst the borders and meadows, you’ll also be able to see other springtime blooms including camellias, crocuses and, from early March, magnolias.
Tregoose
Further up the coast, and therefore the ideal place to stop on your journey home, is Tregoose. The beautiful walled gardens and woodland feature plenty of rare plants and shrubs, but between the months of November and March you’ll be able to see more than 70 varieties of snowdrops.
