With so many things to see and do, Cornwall really is one of the best places to spend quality time together as a family. Plus, the great thing about Clowance is that come rain or shine, there are plenty of things to see and do in the local area which will help keep the nippers occupied throughout your stay.
Here’s our pick of the top five family-friendly activities in South Cornwall.
1. Family Olympics at Clowance
Where better to start your fun-filled family getaway than at Clowance itself? With all sorts of indoor and outdoor sports to choose from including archery, tennis, badminton and golf, you can unleash your competitive side and organise your very own Olympic Games! Or, if all that sounds a little too strenuous for a sunny day, there’s always the giant chess and draughts board on our croquet lawn.
2. Lizard Adventure
For the best exhilarating outdoor experiences Cornwall has to offer – why not try Lizard Adventure? The kids can get stuck into plenty of activities such as shelter-building and survival skills courses, as well as a variety of watersports including sea kayaking, paddle boarding, and surfing. The headline attraction, however, has be coasteering – an adrenaline-fuelled activity which involves climbing cliffs, exploring hidden caves, and venturing to nearby islands. All activities are suitable for children aged 8 years and above, and with no upper age limit, big kids can get involved too!
3. Coast to Coast Karting
Keeping teenagers occupied on a family holiday can often be a tough task. But at Coast to Coast Karting, teens can take to the tracks and put their driving skills to the test. Open all year round, the karting track is just 15 minutes from Clowance and there are even junior karts available for under 16s. So whether you’re a karting novice or consider yourself the next Lewis Hamilton, why not head on down and enjoy a white knuckle ride out on the tracks?
4. St Ives Tate Gallery
The Cornish branch of the Tate Galleries is a must-see if you’re visiting Clowance. Not only can you experience world-class art in a picture-perfect setting, but with plenty of children’s events, workshops and activities, it’s the perfect place for little ones to blow off some steam. Under 18s get in for free, and there are some amazing interactive courses including ‘Tate Create’ which enables children to design their own artwork and give it pride of place on the studio wall.
5. Bluereef Aquarium
Based in Newquay, the Bluereef Aquarium is home to all manner of creatures, from sharks and crocodiles to turtles and tropical fish. At the centre of 40 different habitats is an underwater tunnel which your little ones will simply love as it enables them to get up close to some of their favourite sea creatures. This family-friendly attraction is perfect for all ages, and with regular talks and feeding times, there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied whatever the weather.
