What’s on in South Cornwall this September
Sun, sea, surf… it’s what self-catering holidays in South Cornwall are all about. And although the summer’s drawing to a close, there’s still so much going on out on the waves, including the British Stand Up Paddle Surfing National Championships in Newquay and the Great Cornish Food Festival in Truro. There is so much fun to be had with a visit to Clowance, and don’t just take our word for it, take a look at our recent guest’s holiday pictures here.
September’s here and the surf’s up!
Stand up paddle surfing is one of the fastest-growing watersports in the UK and is often described as a cross between surfing and canoeing. Riders stand on a large surfboard and use a single-bladed paddle to skilfully manoeuvre themselves through the waves.
The British Stand Up Paddle Surfing National Championships take place over two days in Newquay. The best stand up paddle surfers from all over the country will compete for the winner-takes-all title across four divisions: Open Men, Open Women, U16 Boys and U16 Girls. And with Cornwall’s notorious autumn swells already firing, everything looks set for good waves over the weekend!
Come and see the paddle surfers compete in a five-mile race and a performance surfing round, where they’ll have the chance to show off the skills for the judges and waiting crowd. Competitors are judged on their style and how they ride the waves just like a surfing competition, but with the judges also taking into account the use of the paddle. We hope to see you there.
