A day trip from Brunston to Belfast
7 September 2018
Brunston provides the perfect base for exploring Ayrshire’s wide open countryside, beautiful beaches, and charming seaside towns. But did you know, you can also take a short drive to Cairnryan, hop on a ferry, and spend a day exploring Northern Ireland’s capital? Here’s our pick of the best things to do in the city of Belfast.
Titanic Belfast is the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience. Situated just metres away from where RMS Titanic was designed, built and launched in 1912, this incredible museum and exhibition allows you to step back in time and experience the sights, sounds and smells of the ill-fated passenger liner. As well as discovering more about the history of the Titanic, you can walk the decks of the last remaining White Star Line vessel, SS Nomadic, which has been restored to her original 1911 glory.
While visiting Belfast, it’s well worth heading over to explore the world famous rock formation, Giant’s Causeway. Legend has it that these mysterious basalt columns were once home to Finn McCool, a giant who roamed the jagged headland almost two thousand years ago. At this fantastic World Heritage Site, you’ll also find a state-of-the-art visitor centre and some beautiful coastal paths that are well worth exploring.
Game of Thrones tours
If you’re a fan of the epic HBO television series, then embarking on one of the Game of Thrones location tours is a must. Guided by local experts, you’ll journey by ferry, coach, and foot to some of the most iconic filming locations from the TV series. There are three tours to choose from, each one featuring some of Northern Ireland’s most stunning scenery including crumbling medieval ruins, ancient forests, and dramatic coastlines.
Belfast’s Botanic Gardens are loved by residents and visitors to the city. Featuring one of the earliest examples of a glasshouse and a number of seasonal species of tropical plant life, these beautiful gardens are the perfect place to while away an afternoon. The gardens are also home to the Ulster Museum, which houses a collection of art, history, and natural sciences, and features several interactive exhibits for children.
