A summer of art and film in Bude
Artists have flocked to Cornwall since the early 19th century, drawn by the rugged and romantic landscape and the unique quality of the light. So you won’t be surprised to know that the area around Bude is full of opportunities to discover and enjoy the work of local (and sometimes internationally famous) artists.
This summer there are several new art exhibitions launching at The Willoughby Gallery, both located in The Castle Bude.
Besides being a lovely exhibition space, the galleries help to generate commissions for Cornish and west country-based artists, so it’s also a means of supporting their livelihoods and artistic development. Take the short trip from Burn and come and enjoy the work of local artist Chris Edwards together with Elaine Nash, Clare Catt, Lianne Tancock and Bryan Sentence and share how they see and interpret the places and things that fascinate them most. They also hope to engage you in fun activities that will challenge your way of looking at life.
Grease is the word!
The Castle Bude is also the location for a movie night with a difference organised by Silent Summer Screenings – possibly the UK’s only ‘cinema’ where the local community votes for the film they want to see!
The vote for July’s film goes to the ever-popular Grease, with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. The evening begins with live music followed by the movie screened on a big inflatable screen, which can be viewed comfortably by hundreds of people using wireless headphones. You can sit on the ground or bring your own chairs, blankets or seating.
Even if you’ve seen Danny and Sandy, the Pink Ladies and the T Birds many times before, you’ve never seen them quite like this…
